Wheat Ridge | Colorado
Wheat Ridge is a community with a rich history. Named for the endless golden ridges of wheat that miners passed on their way to the gold rush, the outdoors play a strong role in the lives of its residents. The wheat fields became fruit orchards and vegetable gardens, and eventually, greenhouses nurturing the beautiful carnations that give the city its nickname “Carnation City.” Every summer since 1969 the Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival at Anderson Park has provided days of fun, food, and art for the families of Wheat Ridge. Visitors can watch the parade and circus, admire talented musicians at mini live music festivals, and enjoy the car show. The city has a place for everyone, whether you’re looking for a quick snack at the Twisted Smoothie Company (be sure to try the mango smoothie!), a fun night out at the Yak and Yeti Restaurant and Brewpub (the delicious naan bread comes in a variety of flavors!) or a day spent shopping at the Hillside Shopping Center or Wheat Ridge Marketplace. You can even take a peek into history at the Brass Armadillo Antique Mall! In 2014 Wheat Ridge joined LiveWell Colorado Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) and has demonstrated its commitment to an active lifestyle by hosting the Roll, Stroll, and Strut Fest, free after-school sports programs, along with a host of other initiatives. Crown Hill Park offers both paved and horse trails along a lake, Van Bibber Open Space showcases wildlife and scenic vistas, and the Watchable Wildlife Boardwalk at Bass Lake is the perfect escape from the noise of the city. Wheat Ridge has a population of about 31,000 and the median list price of available homes is in the upper 400,000s. It is in a great location between Lakewood and Arvada, and is a wonderful place to call home!
