Cabinet Questions

We met with Steve from the cabinet company today. We ordered knobs and pull on our own to try and save some money and the knobs are too little and the pulls have a less durable screw... So I need to return those and we picked some more out. We were disappointed that they had painted the cabinets white without consulting with us. We assumed that since they were custom cabinets that we would pick the exact shade of white, so that's definitely something to remember. We are also a little concerned about the paint finish-- it looked a little thin so we are checking in with that.

I see now that the finish details are the most stressful since opinions on looks are so subjective.

The web cam is set up inside now with a light so you can watch it 24x7!

Pete and Todd made good progress today with most of the windows and doors now cased.

Trim, tubs and drywall

I spent the better part of Wednesday waiting for Fedex Freight to deliver the clawfoot tub from http://www.thebathspot.com/. I was very happy with The Bath Spot, but Fedex Freight has terrible service. They actually got the tub in Denver on 12/26 and called me to schedule an appointment which I did for 1/3/07. They gave me a window of 12pm-3pm. I called that morning to see if I could get a better estimate time of arrival, but they said no, but it would be there. I waited until 3pm and finally called Fedex again and was told that it never made it on the truck for that day and would I like to reschedule! They had no reason why, no explanation of why they didn't call me, etc... It's supposed to be delivered tomorrow from 8am-noon. We'll see.

Pete and Todd are busy on the trim. It looks like they have most of the window trim pieces cut.

The web cam is down because I am moving it inside. This is actually tougher than it sounds because all the dust from the trim work would probably kill it. I looked all over for a plastic enclosure, but my wife finally offered up a lass cake dish with a glass lid that looks like it should work nicely. I may also get another camera for the driveway as I do like to see who is coming and going.

The drywall has been a slow process. They "finished" early this week, but it isn't even close. It's getting better, but as Doug said, "there are too many bad spots to bother marking." We're glad that Doug agrees. Kaly has been pretty worried about it. Doug is meeting with the drywallers tomorrow. I just wish they would take there time and review it wall by wall.

We're meeting Steve from Hellers Interiors tomorrow. They have been great so far. Kaly is pretty concerned that they painted the cabinets without having her confirm the color choice, though. She was wanting an off white. We'll get a sample of what they were painted with tomorrow, but in the future I would insist on picking the exact color. There are lots of "whites" so I am surprised they did this. The knobs we ordered (ordered ourselves off the Internet) look more black than oil rubbed bronze and don't attach securely enough so we'll have to send them back. An amateur mistake trying to save a buck on our part. A picture of the cabinets in production is to the right.
