Hardwood Choices

Drywall is finally hung and (should have) passed inspection today. Should take 1 1/2 weeks to texture. I still need to see a sample. One things that has frustrated me is that things like drywall texture, stucco texture, , etc. should be finalized at the time of the bid. I think we are set and then I'm told such and such costs a little more.

Framers are hanging the barnwood on the detached garage and it looks great.

They put up a few samples of the stucco. I never knew there were so many options. We many a fairly smooth, hand troweled look. They need to do one more sample as the current ones aren't quite right.

I was a little frustrated with the builders hardwood guys (Lehnert). I said I wanted 4" red oak, so the bid was for 4" red oak #2. Nobody said anything about the boards being short, etc. Craig from Hardwood Floorwerx, someone that has done a lot of work for me in the past, was working on another job for me and suggested 3" and 5" alternating-- he sad he would charge the same as 4". He suggested a Homewood Mill product that was a character grade. It would have longer average lengths (3') and he would charge .50 a more for this-- $8.10 ft installed. I called Lehnert back and told him about Homerwood and he said it was very expensive. I said my other supplier could do it for 8.10 a foot and he said he would check into it. In the end Lehnert was close in price and we got the Homerwood which is a top quality mill. Lehnert did a good job on the install and did it quickly with a good crew so it all worked out well. In the future I would just clarify exact specs on wood at the time of the bid.
