Plumbing, HVA, Electrical, Framing, Painting

The plumbers have finished most of the rough plumbing.  They took a week off while the HVAC guys got all the duct work in and put the furnaces in place, now they are hooking up the gas lines.  In the meantime the framers are putting up the exterior fascia.  They are using real cedar so that is a nice plus and they are installing continuous soffit vents around the inside edge.  Inside the electricians have been working for a bout a week solid.  We completed the walkthrough two days ago and down they are pulling wire.  It helped that we had moist of the fixtures so we could lay out the recessed lights properly.  After the HVAC ducts went in the framers also boxed out the duct work.  We were able to get a nice coffered ceiling effect in the basement rec room and the craft room.  With all the steel beams and microlams in the house getting wires, plumbing, etc. around isn’t easy!  It’s nice that we have a second furnace/ac in the attic which eliminates a lot of duct work.  We also decided to get the spot in the basement ready for a fireplace so their will be venting ($780 in venting alone), electric and gas all in place so we can just cut a hole and install a fireplace in the future.

Brian Altman of Assorted Color (a great painter) will stain the fascia this week. We completed some of the framing walkthrough and marked a few issues.  Found a couple doors that we’re were they were supposed to be in the kitchen (didn’t leave enough room for cabinets).

We are going with the custom cabinet company (www.hellersinteriors).  Not only was the price good, but the ease of having it all be custom, versus trying to fit all the parts and pieces together seems much nicer.  The cabinet makers also do the install which just seems to eliminate a lot of problems. Now we’re just waiting on preliminary drawings to review.

Harold’s Excavating also dug the trench and hooked up the septic system yesterday and trenched for the electric to come underground from the detached garage.

We’re trying to finalize the front door, garage door, and stone choice this week.
