SUPERIOR, COLORADOElevation: 5512 feet Originally a Colorado mining town, Superior was reportedly named after the "superior" quality of coal found in the area in the late 1800s. When the mines closed in 1945, many people moved away and the town evolved into a quiet ranching and farming community.
