Originally called Calkins Lake, it is located east of Longmont on County Road 26. Open from March 1 to October 31, 2002, the park offers fishing, wakeless boating, windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, etc., and a swimming beach. New in 1996, and much appreciated by dog lovers, is a dog beach on the east side of the reservoir where dogs can romp off the leash. The reservoir is also a wildlife habitat that shelters great blue herons, cormorants, pelicans, and many other waterfowl-wild creatures protected with proper usage of the park. Main Picnic Area Reservations For a fee of $40.00 per day, you may reserve the main picnic area for large groups - or small (additional gate fee per vehicle is required). There are picnic tables and barbecues set up in prime locations for your pleasure as well. 3.2% alcohol is permitted in the park with a permit. The fee for the alcohol permit is an additional $50.00.
