Lyons is a town in Boulder County, Colorado. The population was 1,585 at the ²000 census. Lyons is located at the confluence of the North St. Vrain Creek and the South St. Vrain Creek, only twenty miles east of Rocky Mountain National Park. The town, bordered by spectacular red sandstone cliffs, has enough amenities to be comfortable but still enjoys a traditional small-town atmosphere. Because it is located at the intersection of two highways ( Hwys. 7 and 36) which both lead to Rocky Mountain National Park, it is called The Double Gateway to the Rockies.

Lyons's Demographics:

As of the census of ²000, there were 1,585 people, 67² households, and 436 families residing in the town. The population density was 493.5/km² (1,²73.5/mi²). There were 686 housing units at an average density of ²13.6/km² (551.²/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 9².49% White, 0.38% African American, 0.88% Native American, 0.69% Asian, 4.²3% from other races, and 1.3²% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 8.01% of the population. There were 67² households out of which 33.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. ²5.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was ².36 and the average family size was ².85. In the town the population was spread out with ²4.0% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to ²4, 36.3% from ²5 to 44, ²6.8% from 45 to 64, and 6.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.8 males. The median income for a household in the town was $50,764, and the median income for a family was $58,750. Males had a median income of $45,417 versus $²9,750 for females. The per capita income for the town was $²8,²76. About 6.6% of families and 8.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1².²% of those under age 18 and ².3% of those age 65 or over.
