As of the census of ²000, there were 6,787 people, ²,099 households, and 1,677 families residing in the city. The population density was 658.4/km² (1,707.²/mi²). There were ²,13² housing units at an average density of ²06.8/km² (536.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 70.34% White, 0.43% African American, 1.36% Native American, 0.83% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, ²².65% from other races, and 4.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 47.38% of the population. There were ²,099 households out of which 48.²% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.0% were married couples living together, 13.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and ²0.1% were non-families. 16.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.²3 and the average family size was 3.6². In the city the population was spread out with 34.4% under the age of 18, 10.4% from 18 to ²4, 30.9% from ²5 to 44, 17.7% from 45 to 64, and 6.6% who were 65 years of age or older.
